ALTOS DE TORONA
Galicia - DO Rías Baixas - O Rosal

Located in the south of Pontevedra province, bordering northern Portugal, Altos de Torona is the largest single-vineyard estate in D.O. Rías Baixas — 94 hectares of south-facing vines on Monte Galeno in Tomiño-O Rosal. The estate takes its name from the historic Turonia Valley and Monte Torona, while "Altos" nods to its uncommonly high-altitude setting within the appellation. Overlooking the Miño river and the Atlantic Ocean, the vineyard's distinct microclimate is ideally suited to Albariño and other native Galician varieties.

The Gómez family's connection to this land runs deep. It began with the grandparents, who made wine in a small, artisanal home winery rooted in local tradition. Their son Horacio took that foundation further, planting the first vineyards on the hillside behind the family home and building the winery into what it is today. In 2002, they founded their first family winery project, Bodegas Altos de Torona, now led by the third generation of the family.

Today, winemaker Pablo Estévez, among the most awarded in Galicia, brings a precise, vineyard-driven philosophy to the estate, informed by both local knowledge and international experience.

Altitude 328 – 1148 feet

The vineyards at Altos de Torona sit on a hillside in the O Rosal subzone of D.O. Rías Baixas, near the Miño River and the Portuguese border, where strong western winds, elevation, and proximity to the ocean shape the growing conditions. The soils are granitic and sandy with slight acidity, and the climate is mild and Atlantic, with frequent rainfall, especially in winter.

The estate is planted primarily with Albariño, alongside native varieties including Caíño Blanco, Godello, and Loureira. Farming is sustainable, and the vineyard’s biodiversity reflects that commitment, with 91 plant species and 71 animal species coexisting among the vines.
